Eriskay and South Uist by Wheelchair!

Image shows the turquoise water of eriskay, with a rocky shoreline and ferry to the left hand side. The sky is blue with fluffy white clouds.

The ferry at Eriskay

Eriskay is so magical that Kirsty cried when we first began driving from the ferry and towards South Uist. The green hills with rocky outcrops, set against a cerulean blue sky was magical. And they have wild ponies, need I say anymore? Crossing the peninsula to South Uist the land relaxes into open grassland, occasionally revealing otherworldly salt flats. Of course, I haven’t mentioned the white sand beaches and turquoise water so characteristic of the Outer Hebrides, but that’s because what you see on Instagram, that’s what every website shows. What struck me was things you don’t often see, the enchanting inland offerings.

As for visiting these Scottish islands as a wheelchair user, well, I knew that was going to be a challenge. Check out our YouTube video to see what we got up to!
