Hi!
I’m Helen
I’m a disability travel blogger, exploring all of the brilliant wheelchair accessible things Scotland has to offer. That includes off-the-beaten-track adventures, cosy cottages in the middle of nowhere, fun days out, island escapades, and even the odd city break!
I live in a wee village in the Highlands of Scotland with my
two dogs, Millie and Kimber. You can often find us packed into the car and heading off for our next adventure! Travelling as a wheelchair user with two dogs in tow isn’t always easy, but I make it work and share my tips and tricks here.
I have Neuromyelitis Optica, a rare neurological disease that affects the brain stem, spinal cord, and optic nerves. In 2014 I was paralysed from the chest down and learned to walk again. I am now an ambulatory wheelchair user meaning I walk a small amount, but mostly use my manual wheelchair .
When I’m not away on an adventure you’ll find me in my study. Tha mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig – I am learning Scottish Gaelic, and teaching beginner classes with An Clas Camelon.
You can keep up to date with me here, or on my social media channels. I’d love to hear from you!
Meet the team
Kimber
The baby. Absolute grot-bag who will roll in the stinkiest stuff, but gets away with it because, well, look at her. Carrot enthusiast.
Millie
Boss of us all. 13 years old and grumpy but gorgeous. Adores sweet potato fries and anything else vaguely edible.
